Marshall Islands Raid - 1 February 1942 (Read More...)

Bombing Squadron Six made three separate strikes against targets in the Marshall Islands, as part of Task Force 8's raid on 1 February 1942. Three separate reports were submitted: one per strike. Unlike many reports of the war, overt efforts were made to avoid identifying by name the report author and the airmen who executed the attacks.

It is believed that the first two reports were written by LCDR William Hollingsworth, commander of Bombing Six, while the third was written by LT Richard Best, who led the last VB-6 strike of the day.

These reports were filed the day after the attack, and describe in detail the bombing runs, damage inflicted, encounters with enemy air defenses, and first impressions of the enemy in aerial combat.
